Improving your gut health, achieving a balanced microbiome, getting rid of parasites requires proper care, not a fad diet – Detox By Design with Kathy O

A Practitioner guided, comprehensive and effective detoxification program supports liver detoxification along with optimising bowel health and function. It helps alkalise urine to promote waste elimination via the kidneys, neutralises free radicals and reduces the toxic load on your body.

Detox By Design is an individualised approach that takes into consideration what is best suited to your needs at this point in time, following a thorough assessment of your health. There are basics and there are specifics. I help clients build a strong foundation of the fundamentals to good health before introducing a detox program. This alone helps reduce toxin burden and leads to improvements as the body starts to work optimally.

Specific Natural Medicines enhance the clearance of toxins by supporting the body’s major detoxification organs: the liver, kidneys and bowels. Our skin is another major organ protecting us from and excreting toxins. Depending on the individual’s health status, saunas, cold exposure therapy, oxygen therapy, red light therapy may also be useful to aid in this process.

It has been consistently demonstrated in scientific research that essentially everyone on the planet has detectable levels of environmental chemicals in their body. These chemicals include heavy metals, bisphenol A, phthalates, pesticides and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls, polybrominated diethyl ethers, and dioxins; many of which are found in everyday products we use or consume. Moreover, these chemicals present in our bodies are no longer considered benign, as a growing body of evidence suggests that ‘endocrine disrupting chemicals’ (EDCs) play a causal role in conditions, such as obesity and diabetes, male and female reproductive disorders, hormone-sensitive cancers in females, prostate cancer, thyroid dysfunction and neurodevelopmental disorders.

In addition to environmental chemicals, humans can also be exposed to another source of toxins, which have negative effects on our health – toxins generated within our gastrointestinal tract. The gut microbiome contains trillions of microorganisms that produce either healthful or harmful chemicals, depending on the composition and function of these microbes and what we as their host feed them. An imbalanced, or dysbiotic microbiome is linked to both intestinal diseases (e.g. irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease) and non-intestinal conditions, such as depression, autism, autoimmunity, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity and diabetes.

The impact of toxins on human physiology are widespread as they affect numerous targets. Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals can induce dysbiosis. They are known to shift the composition and function of the microbiome. Further, these toxins cause intestinal permeability (known as ‘leaky gut’), and gain easy access to the bloodstream and organs. Once inside the body, EDCs interfere with hormonal signalling, and induce inflammation, oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Similarly, fragments from dysbiotic bacteria, known as lipopolysaccharides (LPS) or endotoxins, can also pass through the leaky epithelium and trigger systemic inflammation and/or drive disease.

Common symptoms of gut microbiome dysbiosis, toxin build up and parasitic infection include:

• General fatigue

• Mental fog

• Headaches

• Bloating

• Gas

• Stomach pain

• Diarrhea

• Constipation

• Nausea

• Vomiting

• Skin symptoms, such as rashes

• Having diarrhea while traveling

• Unexplained weight loss

• Difficulty losing weight

• Passing worms in the stool (specific to parasite infection)

Some parasitic infections and bacterial dysbiosis clear up on their own, especially if your immune system is healthy and you eat a balanced diet. However, sometimes the body needs extra support to help rid itself of toxins, bacteria, parasites. Given our increasing daily exposure to environmental toxins and modern lifestyle, I encourage and practice seasonal detoxes during Autumn going into winter and Spring going into summer. The duration and intensity will depend on an individual’s baseline health status, goals, what they have previously trialled, their most recent symptom complaints or whether it is just a general reset.

During a cleanse, it’s important to follow a balanced diet high in nutrients and low in refined sugars and processed foods. Fiber is particularly important, as it keeps your bowel movements regular while you cleanse. Otherwise, if you are not eating enough food and fibre you are likely to be circulating those toxins back into your blood instead of excreting them! A nutrient-rich diet is also important for strengthening your immune system as the parasites and/or bacteria are flushed out of your body.

To optimise the functions of the body’s major organs, the fundamentals to good health during a cleanse include: Eating whole foods and supportive natural medicine/herbs, sleep hygiene, optimising the stress response, movement, light therapy.

In addition, for a complete health reset, I work with individuals to address the root cause of their symptoms. Our subconscious mind is responsible for 95% of our behaviours and keeps us stuck in a loop of the same experiences. If you want to improve your health long term, new behaviours must replace old ways. This requires more effort. Sure, I can guide you through a supplement detox program and you’ll feel better. However, unless you address the root cause those symptoms will return. The aim is to maintain health in any given circumstance and prevent those symptoms from reoccurring. Learn to optimise your body’s functions year-round. Learn to recognise your body’s fuel tank light, engine light, brake system, oil pressure, battery check light, and know how to respond to each accordingly.

Book in a free discovery call if you are ready to reverse any other disease you believe you’ve ‘gotten from’ your family. Where in your body have you accumulated stale energy that you are now ready to release? The organs that hold onto emotions are merely a puzzle piece as to what to work on. Let’s get to the root cause instead of using band-aid solutions. This requires showing up, ongoing work and dedication.
